Overview.
Ajax climbed to the summit on goal difference following a 5-0 thrashing of Sittard midweek. Those goals secured Ajax’s position as the division’s most potent attacking force with an average of 3.57 scored per match. However, 11 of the 14 Eredivisie home goals they’ve scored didn’t arrive until after half-time, giving them an average of 3.67 second-half goals scored per home match, compared to 1.0 in the first-half. Showing no mercy, each of Ajax’s five league victories this season came by a margin of at least three goals. However, half of Erik Ten Hag’s eight managerial victories vs Groningen were won by just a single-goal, with only two producing a margin of at least three.
On the other hand, Groningen lost 3-1 at PSV midweek, and remain the league’s joint-lowest scorers with an average of 1.0 goals per match. Visiting coach Danny Buijs, has lost all three of his H2Hs with Ajax, with just one goal scored in 270 minutes of play, whilst ten were conceded. As a direct consequence of their failures in front of goal, Groningen’s Eredivisie matches average a joint-league low 2.43 total goals per fixture, the majority of which (11 of 17 – 64.71%) were netted after half-time.
